Xavier Brass Festival 2009




Starting this Monday 23rd Xavier College is hosting the inaugural Xavier Brass Festival.  It is featuring Melbourne brass 'elite' including Greg Spence [Dancing with the Stars], Russell Davis [Melbourne Symphony], Scott Evans [Orchestra Victoria], Shrewd Brass, Air Force Brass, Sean Priest [ex WA Symphony], Peter Brosnan, Christopher Eury and more....

Highlight promise to be:

Monday 23rd @ 7.30pm
Eldon Hogan Performing Arts Centre, Barkers Rd, Kew
Xavier Staff Concert featuring the Staff Quartet, Peter Brosnan Quartet, Fletch hosting the event plus much much more

Tuesday 24th @ 7.30pm
Xavier Memorial Chapel, Barkers Rd, Kew
Sean Priest will present a trumpet recital featuring works by composers including Hummell, Bernstein, Gibbons and Tomasi.

Wednesday 25th March @ 7.30pm
Eldon Hogan Performing Arts Centre, Barkers Rd, Kew
The Festival Finale Concert will feature Shrewd Brass, The Festival Brass Ensemble, the Xavier Staff Brass Quintet and Swingin.com Big Band featuring Greg Spence and Scott Evans.

New venue for swingin.com Big Band

Swingin.com have a new home for their Monday night gig.  The Kew Hotel at Kew Junction, formerley the Clifton Hotel.  The band is playing on Monday 27th October @ 8.15, playing two sets of swing and disco charts.  The band will perform as a 10 piece ensemble in this first gig at the new venue. The band features Angela Reed on Vocals and some of melbourne's top commercial and freelance musicians.

swingin.com Big Band @ Sommeliers Australia Ball

On Sunday 5th October swingin.com Big Band entertained the guests at the Sommeliers Australia Annual Ball, held at Ormond Hall in Prahran. Starting with jazz standards and arrangements of popular songs in jazz style, the band moved on to the swing era and then into some funky and disco hits.  Angela Reed and Christopher Eury sang with the band while the guests danced away, in between eating and drinking the best Australia has to offer at this hospitality industry night.

Angela Reed Quartet @ Quaff

On Sunday the 5th October, the Angela Reed Quartet performed for a private function at Quaff Restaurant and Bar in Toorak Village, performing jazz standards at a private cocktail party for 200 guests. Tony Mazziotta [Bass], Jeff Arthur [Guitar] and Christopher Eury [Trumpet] joined Angela to entertain the invited guests.

Trumpet Recital Results

Sunday's recital was great success.  There was a crowd of about 100 people to hear Chris play a varied programme of trumpet repertoire. 

The Telemann and Haydn Concerto's were performed with the Societus Chamber Orchestra to an appreciative audience.  The second half highlight was the contemporary work 'Solus', by Stan Friedman. 

The examination panel, comprised of three musicians, including Mr Rob Sims (Head of Brass VCA), awarded Chris the Fellowship of Music. F.MUS.A.

Christopher Eury Recital

Sunday 28th September 2008 @ 3.00pm

On Sunday the 28th September Chris will perform in a public recital as an examination for his Fellowship of Music with the AMEB. The programme will include works by Haydn, Telemann, Hindemith and Boutry.
The concertos are to be played with a chamber orchestra conducted by Simon Brown, and the accompanist for the recital will be Claire Cooper.
